Peace and mercy of Allah be upon you all

Welcome back once again to our Daily Hadith series!
Today we continue with Hadith no. 50 from Riyadh al-Salihin,
Introduction – Chapter: Patience

---

50 –
Narrated by Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both):

‘Uyaynah ibn Hisn came and stayed with his nephew, Al-Hurr ibn Qays.
Al-Hurr was among those whom Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to admit into his council.
The Qurra’ (those who memorized the Qur'an) – whether elders or youth – used to sit in Umar’s gathering and he would consult them.

‘Uyaynah said to his nephew:

> “O son of my brother, you have a position with this leader. Ask permission for me to see him.”

So Al-Hurr sought permission, and Umar granted it.

When he entered, he said:

> “Hey, O son of Al-Khattab! By Allah, you do not give us generously, nor do you judge justly between us!”

Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) became angry and was about to strike him.

But Al-Hurr said:

> “O Commander of the Believers! Verily Allah said to His Prophet (peace be upon him):

‘Show forgiveness, enjoin what is right, and turn away from the ignorant.’
[Surah Al-A‘raf: 199]

And this man is one of the ignorant.”

By Allah, Umar stopped immediately when that verse was recited.
He was one who would pause and submit to the Book of Allah.

Narrated by al-Bukhari.
