What a beautiful gathering it is, centered around a hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) — as if he is among us, offering us advice and guidance from his words.
And once again, we return with a noble hadith from the book Riyadh as-Salihin, Chapter: Truthfulness
58 – Fifth Hadith:
On the authority of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
> “A Prophet from among the Prophets (peace be upon them all) went on a military expedition. He said to his people: ‘No man should follow me who has married a woman but has not yet consummated the marriage, or who has built a house but has not yet put up its roof, or who has bought sheep or pregnant she-camels and is waiting for them to give birth.’
So he set out, and when he approached the town at the time of Asr prayer or close to it, he said to the sun: ‘You are commanded by Allah and I too am commanded by Allah. O Allah, hold it back for us!’ So it was held back until Allah granted him victory.
He gathered the spoils of war, and fire came to consume them, but it did not consume them. He then said: ‘Some of you have committed ghulul (unlawful taking from the spoils). Let one man from each tribe give me his pledge.’ So the hand of one man stuck to his (the Prophet’s) hand, and he said: ‘There is ghulul among you. Let your tribe pledge to me.’ Then the hands of two or three men stuck to his, and he said: ‘Ghulul is among you.’
They brought a head of gold, shaped like a cow’s head, and placed it down. Then the fire came and consumed it.
Spoils of war were not permitted to anyone before us, but Allah permitted them to us when He saw our weakness and inability, so He made them lawful for us.”

(Note: “Ghulul” refers to dishonestly taking from the spoils of war.)
“Khilafāt” (الخلَفات): with a khā’ and lām, is the plural of khalīfah, meaning a pregnant she-camel.
